Samarkand is a woven plaid with fringes. The woven jacquard structure with special, thick effect yarns in the weft and a fine warp yarn creates an interesting structure of fine, smooth, slightly mottled and strongly textured surfaces. The coarse plaid looks as if it were woven by hand, and the frayed selvedges emphasise this look.
